Can you sleep through anything?
THE FARM HAND WHO COULD SLEEP THROUGH ANYTHING
There once was a farmer looking for a your man to help out at the farm. There were several young men who interviewed for the job and as far as the farmer could tell they were about equally well qualified. He then went and asked them each one final question...Tell me, he would say, Why should I hire you above the others?”
Of all of the applicants and their replies, there was one that was really different. One young man said...”because I can sleep through anything.” At first the farmer thought it was just strange, then the more he thought the more he was intrigued and mystified by the response. So he figured, well I will give this young man a chance and he hired him.
Weeks went by and the farmer was pretty happy with the young mans work. He still wondered sometimes what the young man had meant by his strange reply, but he never got around to it. Then one night he was awakened in the middle of night got a phone call from neighbor. There’s a big 33 storm suddenly coming in with lots of wind, maybe a tornado. Better get ready for it,” was the quick message.
Indeed as the farmer went and looked out the door he found that the wind was strong and rising and rain had started. He quickly ran and tried to wake the young man up to start getting everything ready for the blow...but try as he might, the young man couldn’t be stirred. Muttering to himself about what a stupid thing he had done in hiring a lazy boy who wouldn’t wake up when he really needed him...the farmer went out to the farm.
He went out to tie down the hay...but discovered that the hay was already tied down securely. Next he went to the barn and the corrals...and every time he looked, everything had already been prepared. After a while of just wandering around the farm, of discovering that there was nothing that needed to be done at the last minute...because it had all been done before, the farmer returned to the house, but instead of muttering, he actually found himself singing the praises of this young man. He had realized, to his great joy, that the reason that the young man could sleep through anything was because before he went to bed each and every night he had already prepared for the very worst. And so the farmer followed the example of the young man, since everything was already prepared, he undressed and was soon fast asleep, with a huge smile of peace on his face.
Moral of the story....it is better to be overly prepared than under prepared, you get more sleep that way.
“There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated-- “And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.” D&C 130:20-21
“For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.” D&C 58:26
Over the past the year I have been reading from Jesus the Christ, on Sundays during Sunday School. I have attempted to do this many times over the years. I did not go on a mission before I got married so I did not have that sacred time to read or the charge to read as it would have been a part of the 'library' I would have been allowed. I have been blessed to be allowed chunks of time before Sacraments meetings to sit quietly and read, it has given me some great insight and respect there are times I cry as I read because I feel deeply the word pictures and see them in my minds eye. For those who observe they just see me cry. On occasion during the breaks as the Young men are passing the Sacrament I will read, but usually I am deep in prayer about my children and asking for guidance in how to work with them. I will receive specific answers for me for my children and what to do. Sometimes it is just reassurance I am on the right path. Most Sacrament meetings I take note book to take notes on items that strike a cord within me. I take time before we really start the meeting to write an issue or question we are addressing at home or other wise I am asking about or the situation or the child specifically who is in need. Sometimes it is something that comes to me that I must focus on. I will write what comes to mind as prompted. I do my best to implement those items. Some are shared here but not in specific form, because they are for me and my family-I do not even share all of them with my husband. Some pertain to our relationship, and what I need to do to become a better wife. (Those can actually be very tender and tough at the same time.) I know you want me to get to get to the point and know what all this has to do with the story I shared above and those scriptures.
I have been interested in Preparation for a long time. My library reflects such and so do some of my experiences. I am grateful that is within my heart. I only hope to be of service when the time comes. I have long gathered the information and have practiced and done my best to learn skills that would be helpful. I have even went so far as to volunteer with organizations, to learn knew skills and have a reason to practice them on a consistent basis. I was blessed, though I did not recognize it at the time, to live in a home that had meager means and experienced some choice life events that I would not wish on others. I am healing from these. The passage of time and coming to accept that those events have helped me to become more receptive to the guidance I needed. I have been blessed with an understanding loving husband, who loves me in spite of my short comings and imperfections. I am sure my Great Uncle to talked to the President at BYU to get me into BYU; knew that his little good deed to make sure I found husband would actually pay off. It has been over 24 years of marriage now and 25 years knowing one another. His only regret he keeps telling me is not marrying within the month of proposing. Which it probably would have been good for both of us. But there were things to learn and live too.
I am comfortable to say I am not 'totally prepared' yet, I am still learning and receiving insight for me and my family.
I have a few more chapters to finish reading, then I will start all over again. I want to learn more. I wan to recognize Him when He returns.
My goal is to be able as the young man above to be able to sleep through anything, because I know that I am prepared in all aspects of my life.

Survival soup
This is Survival soup from the Seasoned Citizen Prepper website by MsKYprepper's article entitled Feed a Family of 4 for 1 Year, for less than $300 giving credit where credit is due.
Measure out (Weigh on scale)
8 oz of white Rice (I used basmati rice)
2 oz of Red Kidney beans (I used black beans, and will switch out Great Northern and Pinto too)
2 oz of Pearl Barley (I used quinoa)
2 oz of yellow lentils (I used Brown lentils)
1 oz Split Green Peas
1 oz of Chick Peas or Garbanzo beans
Add 6-7 Quarts of water (I made a mistake here and only used 10 cups of water and added anoth 4 cups later, I really need 24-28 cups. eek!)
Add Bouillon or salt to taste. (I used salt)
Then add any other meats, veggies and seasonsings. (I added 1 can 12.3 oz Chicken with water, 2 cups celery, 2 cups Carrots, 1 large onion softball size diced )
Bring to a boil and simmer for two hours.
Tasted pretty good the way I made but, to make it stretch I need to make it the way it says and have bread to go with it. I have good concentrate I can add water to, which I will do when I serve it later on for dinner. I will warm it up in the crock pot.
We have most of this on hand already because we eat beans and rice regularly. My husband served a mission for our church in South America and My oldest in the foreign land of Los Angeles, CA Spanish speaking Mission. They eat lots of beans and rice. We will be adding this as a part of our normal rotation especially for this winter.

Mom's Heel & Body Cream recipe
I used a custom blend for my Mother-in-law who has issues with occasional cracked heels. She says this is the only lotion /cream that keeps her heels moisturized. She has tried all of the commercial stuff and it just does not do what this one does.
I made this recipe which has been modified from the original recipe, because of allergies and sensitives to coconut oil.
Use a popsicle stick or spoon to take cream out of the jar to prevent introducing bacteria or spoilage to your lotion/Cream.
Remove from heat and add grapeseed (or fractionated coconut) and olive oils. Allow to cool to body temperature. As it cools, the mixture will thicken and become opaque. Stir as it cools to keep the consistency smooth. If it cools too much, just reheat it.
While the oil mixture is cooling, warm the distilled water in another heat-proof measuring cup in the hot-water bath. Test for body temperature with a clean finger.
When the oil mixture and water have both reached body temperature, pour the water into a blender or mixing bowl (I use a mixing bowl and stick blender) and add optional water-soluble ingredients such as vitamin C. Process at high speed. If using a high-power blender such as a Vita Mixer, set it on low. Slowly add the oil mixture by pouring a thin drizzle into the whirling water. It will begin to sputter and thicken. Continue to process until the oil and water have blended together into a thick, creamy liquid. This may take 5-10 minutes in a blender or food processor. If using a high-power blender, it may take 20-30 seconds. It may take 15 minutes with a stick blender. This process, called emulsification, is the secret to creams.
Scoop the cream into a 32-oz (1 L)measuring cup with a spout for easy pouring. If you are adding essential oils, do it at this point, making sure to stir them in well. Pour the cream into very clean, dry jars. Filling them to the top and leaving as little airspace as possible. Cap with tight-fitting lids and let sit overnight to allow the “flavors” to blend. Use a clean popsicle stick to dip out your cream if it is in a wide-mouth container, to prevent introduction of bacteria and spoilage.
Variations - Variations on the oils for this recipe are easy. As long as the amount of hard oil (solid when cool) totals 4 oz and soft oil (liquid) totals 6 oz, you can play with oils to make creams for different purposes. Have fun!
Other Ingredients - Optional ingredients include PABA for sun protection, MSM for cellular hydration and repair, and natural preservatives such as Grapefruit seed extract or vitamins A, C or E. Essential oils also act as preservatives due to their antimicrobial properties.
Everything is done by weight measurements. You will need a scale that does ounces and fraction of ounces. Place your dish on and zero out your scale before weighing you ingredients.
Soft oil:
4 oz (113 g) Olive oil
5 oz (142 g) distilled water
Essentials oils ( 45 drops-opt.)-
I like to use an Electric Skillet to Heat and melt the ingredients using it as a gentle water bath.
Once all oils are heated and melted.
Heat the distilled water , place in a bowl, using a stick blender start mixing the water on high. Slowly drizzle or pour in small steady stream the melted oils in to the water this will begin the emulsification process.
It takes about 15 mins. Once it is done you may add Essential oils of your choice. Please contact me about my preference in Essential Oils. (Ask if you would like to know more about these amazing oils, they have been a huge blessing in my family's life.) OR you may Just put it into containers plain for use.
Here is the original recipe with the above annotations.
Basic Body Cream Recipe by Tamalu Watkins
(all measurements are by weight)
· Hard oils: (Modified used Only 1/2 oz (14 g) cocoa butter no coconut oil)
2 ½ oz (71 g) virgin coconut oil
½ oz (14 g) cocoa butter
· Soft oils: (Modified used 4 oz (113 g) of Olive oil No Grapeseed or almond)
4 oz (113 g) grapeseed oil or almond
2 oz (57 g) olive oil
· 1 oz (28 g) beeswax, grated
· 9 oz (255 g) distilled water (Modified used 5 oz (142 g) of distilled water)

Place coconut oil in a 16-oz (.5 L )heat-proof measuring cup. Add cocoa butter and beeswax. Put the cup containing the oil and beeswax into a pot partially filled with water, place over medium heat and stir with a chopstick or fork until the oil and beeswax melt and dissolve, becoming one liquid. Remove from heat and add grapeseed (or fractionated coconut) and olive oils. Allow to cool to body temperature. As it cools, the mixture will thicken and become opaque. Stir as it cools to keep the consistency smooth. If it cools too much, just reheat it.

Closet Seamstress Sews Maxi skirt/ dress
This was posted or so I thought 22 June. Out Internet has been wonky, so.
I admit I am a closet seamstress, I have seen many of the maxi skirts but have not like the color combos and /or patterns in the material. Looking at scale some were just way too big.
I got some knit fabric- T-shirt material and will be making a tee shirt from it later.
I drafted the pattern today using instructions from so-sew-easy.com. Here is the preliminary sketch.
Here is the full skirt pattern.
I can wear this under a shirt and have some support*. This is the waist band pattern.
Sorry no video of me sewing this.
Construction was easy cut out the waistband, the front and back of the skirt.
Sew side seams of the front and back wrong side together.
Take waist band sew ends together to form a tube( right side facing- comfortable but snug to waist).
Fold band in half wrong side together, slip inside skirt so right sides are together on the inside of the skirt.
Sew waist band in place stretching to fit the skirt. Give room to slip it on and off easily.
Just do the hem, I did 3/4 inch.
You are done, thanks Deby from so-sew-easy.com.
I did make a slight deviation from the directions, where the waistband and skirt come together should have been on the inside versus the outside.
This is the maxi skirt waistband down.
This is the maxi skirt waistband down.
My dress form is a Petite Twinfit by Dritz( I purchased 2003 for around $120 from Hancock Fabrics- I was bodybuilding and could not find decent clothing to fit in size 0-2. She was perfect for that 32-25-33 and 100 lbs soaking wet.) She will adjust to Bust-30-36 inches, waist-22-28 inches, hips-31-37 inches, back to waist length-14.5-16.5, and 12.5+ neck, which means I will not choke making a neck line. I will be padding her up a little bit as she will not expand to the full measure needed for my hips (38-39 inches depending on the day), waist (28-29 inches), and a few others need some padding. I will be looking to upgrade later to a heavy duty one.
Not bad for about 3-1/2 hours pattern draft to finished product.
(* I do not wear bras very often, because the physical pain they cause is not worth it. I do wear camisoles and I guess similar to bikini top triangle bra with ribbon, otherwise I do not wear anything. I am LDS so I do have a layer under my clothing.)
Crochet Scarf
This is scarf I started on about three years ago. Ok yes it has been sitting in a bin waiting.
Well it is done. I crocheted through Sunday School, Relief Society, and changed when I got home and continued on. It took a little over three hours. I will need to get some more yarn to redo the fringes.
Now on to my daughter's afghan that was started after she turned 8 years old. I told her I would have it done by the time she was 12 ( entering young women's), then 16 for her sweet sixteen, then 18 because she was and adult. Well she is on her LDS mission Spokane Washington. I have 8 plus just a little to find all the squares finish the last 15 squares and put it together.
I really do not want to put it off any longer or it may not get done until the next mil lineup.
